There are a lot of reasons to think about going back to school this year of 2010. There have been a lot of things that have changed over the past few years and one of those things is the availability of employment. There was a time when there was an abundance of jobs and the opportunities were limitless. This is not the case in 2010.

In 2010 people that have been in positions for years are in the job market again. These displaced workers have a load of experience and are often very willing to learn a new trade if given the chance. At the same time, you have new graduates fresh out of college that are looking for their place in the world. This recipe cooks up quite the competitive job market.

Going in to a job market as competitive as 2010, you have to ask yourself, what it is that gives you the edge when being compared to experience and/or youth?  This answer can be as simple as education. Will someone consider your degree over experience or youth? You better believe, they will. If you have experience and education, you have a heads up and a greater chance of securing a place in a very volitile job market. There is a time when experience prevails, but there is also a time when we realize that experience is even better with a backup. A degree can give your experience the attention that it deserves.

There are other reasons for going back to school in the year 2010. Maybe you are the displaced worker. There may be the reconsideration of career paths due to your displacement or salary changes. There can be options galore for the person willing to change their previous career path. This year may prove that otherwisem less thought of job titles may be the most profitable. Keeping your options open and being willing to further yourself with education may prove to be the best thing that ever happened to you. There is nothing wrong with trying something new, and sometimes, it can work out in a way can help us be happier in the end.

The bottom line is to keep your options open in the year 2010 and don't limit yourself to anything. Use education to open up the world for you. There are a lot of ways to make us more wanted in the job market and education is one of the most favorable things that we can do to make ourselves more marketable.
