Plantar warts refer to small lesions which occur on the foot sole. These uncomfortable lesions are caused by a virus called human papillomavirus (HPV), same virus that also produces genital warts, cervical cancer, and oral or genital carcinoma. Plantar warts results when the virus comes in direct contact with the virus which enters through the small cuts, cracks, or any other skin abrasion.
Lesions of plantar warts appear as a protuberance which is round in shape and has a black core. However in some cases, plantar warts appear as flat growing inwards and leaving the surface even. Transmission of an infection with human papillomavirus (HPV) occurs by walking barefooted on damp and moist high risk surfaces being infected with the virus, such as public showers, swimming pools, or locker rooms. Plantar warts can also spread by sharing shoes and socks as it is a contagious condition.
Getting Rid of Plantar Warts:
The permanent removal of plantar warts may be a difficult task; however it is not entirely impossible. Most treatments commonly available have been able to provide solutions to the problem but only temporarily. Removing plantar warts is a time consuming work of patience because, even with proper treatment, plantar warts tends to resurface again after sometime. The most common method of getting rid of plantar warts is by applying acid onto them. Salicylic acid is the most often used acid for the purpose, applied as a patch or as a solution. The beneficial method is to apply salicylic acid daily for at least 4 weeks. It is important to make sure that the surrounding healthy skin does not come in contact with the salicylic acid, because it can produce skin irritation to the healthy skin. Furthermore, at regular intervals, a pumice stone or a nail file can be used to remove the dead skin.
If you are looking for a way to get rid of plantar warts without visiting a physician, then simple home remedies can also sometimes prove to be beneficial. The affected area is applied with papaya, pineapple, and banana peel. These fruits are effective to the enzymes present in them which aids in dissolving the plantar warts without producing any side effects. Aloe vera, apple cider vinegar, and a past made from castor oil and baking soda can also be employed to serve the purpose effectively. One of the easiest ways to get rid of plantar warts is by applying duct tape on them for 5 to 6 days. Medical treatment options for plantar warts include cryotherapy, immunotherapy and laser surgery.
