In a classroom setting the teacher's job is to teach, so if that needs to include computers to equipped the students for the tasks they will need to know, than of course computers and technology need to be used in the classroom. Technology and computers have worked their way steadily into everyday life for most people. In knowing this you would assume that to be able to successfully be able to make it in life you would have to know at least a little knowledge about these topics. A teacher should be grooming their students for success outside the classroom, so if technology and computers are a vital part of the students understanding and being able to cope with life experiences that surround the subject being taught outside the classroom they must incorporate these new tools for students to succeed. If teachers refuse to except the fact that these technologies are a needed part of a student's success they set them up for difficulties outside the classroom or possibly failure.
Computers simplify a lot of issues that used to be totally done by hand. Although working through things totally from your brain has its benefits, if some of the more simple issues are taken care of by a computer this leaves the students thoughts free to take on more challenging issues at hand and quite possibly discover a whole new way of thinking. World history has shown that mankind rarely looks back when it comes to new things that simplify life, so it would make sense to equip the future generations for the changes instead of teaching them fractured ideas that are only fragments of the whole picture.
This is not to say that the old way of doing things is totally obsolete, but it becomes one of the foundational building blocks of the learning process that is an important part of the process, but needs these new technologies to complement it. Some may see these new technologies and the age of the computer as fall backs to the educational process, but if education sways to these things we must embrace them in order to move forward. There has always been some opposition to certain roads to progress, but if it worked it didn't matter whether people disagreed with it or not humanity moved on. In closing it would appear that technology and computers are here to stay for the time being and if we are to move forward we must embrace them not only in the classroom, but throughout most other aspects of our lives. The currents of the river of life always move forward, if we try to go against them we will eventually get pushed forward whether we like it or not.
