A writer nowadays not only should have, but literally, must have a laptop if he/she really wants to be a successful writer. There are lots of good reasons why a writer should have a laptop.

Laptop has over the years, took the role and function of old typewriter (or even conventional desktop) by leaps and bounds. Without a laptop, a writer is like a knight without saber. For professional writers, laptop is the tool of the trade. Laptop is the main weapon any dedicated writers could possibly have in their possession.

Laptop primary function is of course to write your writing job or assignment, but more than that, a laptop will give a lot of help for any inspiring (or struggling) writer trying to search some ground for recognition and acceptance. 

With a laptop, a writer can get a connection to internet. Connection to the internet means connection to the world. With internet, a writer can do a lot of research job before writing his piece (or masterpiece). He can do research much faster and a lot more wide scope of coverage compared to a tedious and laborious visit to a local library. With a comprehensive research, he can write his assignment with more accurate facts and figures based on reliable knowledge resource and reference that can be found on internet.

Laptop nowadays is very portable with longer battery life. So a writer can possibly writes anywhere he goes, anytime he feels free to do so. Even he is on a holiday vacation somewhere in Amazon, he still can write! It gives writer a sense of independence. With a laptop on his side, he can write anywhere or anytime he finds an idea or inspiration to write.

Laptop also will make it possible to save your written articles so that you can retrieve it later either to modify or to add more points, or just for their own reference, review, or reread purpose. You can duplicate your works and make a safe back-up data so that your works are safe and permanent.

With a laptop and internet connection, a writer can directly communicate with his publisher, his fans or even his mentor. He can set-up his own web site to promote his works or to give public more access to his database, work profile, and perhaps some glimpse of his personal life. He can promote himself and his works more aggressively, and in turn making more money.

For some old generation writers, they still cling on to the romantic notion of writing purely from the heart, with or without laptop. So they don't really care much about laptop and internet connection. We cannot totally blame them. They had their own point of view and we must respect that. But, to have a laptop will give much more advantages to a writer to write, and subsequently becomes more successful.
