Father's Day craft projects for children

When it comes to Father’s Day Dads are no different than Moms in that they truly appreciate a handmade gift from their child. Dads love the idea that their children thought enough of him to spend time crafting a gift of love. If a Father has his own space in the house or at work they take the utmost pride in displaying a gift that was made for them.

There are many craft kits that are available in the stores to make that would be of interest to a dad such as stepping stones, model cars, and wooden objects to paint and personalize. A trip to your local Home Depot or Lowes on a Saturday may well worth be the while as they offer free kid classes every other week, I believe.

A great craft idea to make for a Dad would be to make them a personalized trophy made from paper mache. If the child is young they may need someone to assist in the creating process. The needed supplies for this craft consists of: aluminum foil, newspaper cut/torn into strips, liquid starch or glue and water, a small box like the size new checks come in, paint, wooden letters or sticker letters and miscellaneous craft supplies.

To begin this project first form the shape of a person using aluminum foil. Tear off a piece of foil; crumple it into a ball to be the head of the sculpture. Tear off another piece and crumple that to form the arms (1 piece, slightly bent). Hold the arms up just under the head to judge whether or not the size of the arms are in sync with the size of the head. Next form the legs as you did with the arms bending in the center for the appearance of two legs. At both ends, fold up a small piece to resemble feet. Form the body of the sculpture with a crumpled up rectangle.

To assemble the pieces together, tear off a strip of foil wrapping one end tightly around the head coming down and around one side of the arms forming a shoulder. Repeat this for the other side of the arms. To attach the body to the legs use a strip of foil centered between the legs; pulling up the crotch area wrapping the remaining foil around the body to hold in place. To hold the body in place under the head, use a strip of foil centered behind the head, coming down under the armpits, criss-cross foil over the body front pulling the foil so that it is snug against the sculpture. Repeat again but this time; begin from the opposite side criss-crossing the foil in the back of the body for extra support.
