Travel guide: Berlin - Center, Germany

Berlin is the reflection of its eventful history as the metropolis of an empire, and the city of the National Socialist regime. It carries the traces of a divided city. After a fifty-year break, Berlin is back – back as the capital of a reunified Germany. Berlin is one of Europe's greatest cities.
Besides, as a movie trailer shows,  “Berlin is a village” - cornfields, lakes, and forests, the TV tower, building sites, fashions shows, granny with umbrella, red carpets, scolding, demonstrators, the Palace of the Republic, Old museum, New museum, Comic Opera and Brandenburg Gate.

When coming to Berlin the first time, you just should open your senses, and embark on a journey of delightful discovery. Get a sight seeing map and a chart of Berlin's transportation facilities, at any train station, info or booking agency, or Internet; S-Bahn (train), U-Bahn (underground train), Bus or Tram). Buy a daily or weekly ticket that covers the duration of your stay. These prepaid tickets allow you to use any transport at any time during the period set on your ticket.

The TV tower (368 m high) is just in front of you. For a great view over Berlin, you can travel to the top and have a cup of coffee at the rotating restaurant. Don't forget to take a look at “World-time Clock” that displays the time of all time zones around the world, in the middle of Alexanderplatz.Walking down Karl Liebknecht Strasse direction Brandenburg Gate, you will pass the DDR Museum on your right, and on your left St. Marys Church (Marienkirche), Berlin's second oldest parish church from the 13th century.

When proceeding further, you will discover on your way architecture, art, shopping at the same time. At the right, you see the Berlin Cathedral church (Domkirche Berlin) rebuilt in 1893, Lust garden and Museum Island. Museum Island will need your full attention, if you love art. You might plan a full day and select or book before the exhibition that suits you, current or permanent.
