Birth by induction: The increase in induced births

Birth by induction is most definitely a trend on the rise. My circle of friends had a baby boom a few years back and that is when I heard some pretty weak birthing stories. All three of these women were in their strong sturdy mid twenties and could have preformed the birth without induction if just given enough time. Doctors are scheduling inductions to make all of the women work harmoniously around their very busy patient load.

Each woman in my circle were induced a week before due date, given an epidural shortly there after and push once or twice and it was over. They came home with these stories and I was amazed. I wondered what had happened to the water breaking at two am and the rush to hospital. Birthing stories are supposed to have some level of drama. Some semblance of urgency makes for a great rendition of the best day of their lives. I some situations the babies are encouraged to be born early due to health issues either of the mother and/or child. I support the medical field when those decisions are made properly.

For the women that have had to be induced for the immediate physical health of you and/or your baby then I say bravo for the Doctors are able to see this and help. For the women that could have very well waited and delivered on natures schedule I say you should question very hard your Doctors advise. Make sure that it is for medical reasons instead of time management. I feel I have plenty of stories to speak from as I am an avid fan of delivery shows. Deliver Me has fewer induction stories than any other birthing show. It is team of three female Doctors and they knew first hand how important it is to observe nature and stand by until their services are needed.

The increase in popularity stems also from the brilliant observations of the overdue baby the is getting to big to deliver if the continues to wait. Many risks are involved in going to far past the due date. Size is one concern, the mother blood pressure is a big concern as each day passes that her body has not gone into labor on its on. When the baby is showing sign of distress in a overdue birth then its quickly decided to have the emergency cesarean birth. Most Doctors will induce at one week late. By starting this particular trend of induction million of babies are born healthier and remain healtier through out life.
