to do but before I could do anything the dispatcher next to me who was working the other channel (we only had 2 in those days compared to 20 or so they currently work with) told me, "Don't call anyone, my responsibility." No problem, I just sat back and listened.
A few minutes passed with intermittent clicking but no more cries for help from Belton. I suppose he just sat in his car with his spotlight focused on the corpse laying on the sidewalk, unmoving, with a big butcher knife sticking out of his blood soaked back.
Shortly thereafter the Sergeant, checked on-scene. Two minutes later Belton was back on the radio. "115 En-route to the station to book evidence into the property room."
" 10-4 115" I responded. "What is the nature of your evidence?" This question was not just me being nosey, it was required to make a radio log entry as we had 24 hour tapes running and the PD used them as a backup evidentiary tool.
There was a long pause, so I repeated, "115, What is the nature of your evidence?" then I added, "and I will give you your incident number." There was no answer.
Finally, the Sergeant came on the air and said a single four word sentence . . ."It is a manequin."
