To know the truth we must love it. The first and foremost we owe ourselves is that we must do before accepting or not accepting a Teaching is to exercise proper discerning in regards to Evidence and Hearsay, or as We would like to put it Fact or Fiction of a subject. We have way to many So Called Biblical Teachers who have never ascertained the ability to do proper Biblical Hermeneutics. (the art and Science of Biblical interpretation). Hence we have no recourse but to learn ourselves and to do it with all of our Heart soul and mind.If we love truth then we should find it regardless of the Time Talent and Treasure that it may take to obtain it.
Concerning Christmas we must look as far back as need be to obtain those things which are Fact. We don't know the Day That Christ was born this is true and many scholars even disagree about the year Generally between 30 A.D. and 34 A.D. How ever we do know specifics about Christmas that give us the ability to celebrate it freely.
The Date of December 25th was originally a centered Date of winter solstice in which Pagan religions back to the 3rd century worshiped the many gods that they had at that time which were many. The solstice lasts for 10 Days and the 25th falls in the middle of this Time.
Christians at that time approximately 220 AD advocated it as Christmas. Rather than to have a counter celebration on another day We instituted it on a Pagans Holiday in order that we might bring Christ to the pagans.
This time of celebration for them was called Saturnalia, one of their most popular Days Dec 17th - 24th. This is How Christians brought Christ to the pagans.
