WHEN ONE HAS LOST THEIR DREAMS
When one has lost their dreams, yet continues to believe
one will buy a lotto ticket
as the odds continue to slim, and one will give his last dollar
hoping tomorrow will bring another, then help a stranger
to fix a flattened tire, one will fill out an application
to where they want to go
and one will clip pictures’
of that expensive cruise, and hang pictures of exotic places
on their walls, one will browse expensive stores,
fingering that perfect shoe. Or drive by that perfect house
to see again the slanted roof and window seats
to stare again at the wrap around deck
When one has lost their dreams, yet continues to believe.

by Leigh Goessl

A life full of vibrant dreams
Each day longed for the future
Reality's not what it seems
Long arduous
