"A Lonely Man"
A lonely man, he rolls from bed
Another day I’m sure he’ll dread
She’s still asleep. He’ll let her stay
She wouldn’t kiss him anyway
A lonely man, he showers and shaves
Just when did he become this slave
To work and kids and household chores
To be this bore they all ignore?
A lonely man, he starts his car
His office prison’s not that far
Commuters shroud him everywhere
Yet he drives alone in deep despair.
A lonely man, sits in his chair
And plays computer solitaire
His colleagues on their coffee breaks
Will blather on of his mistakes
A lonely man, voices concern
Of when this meeting will adjourn
With others who are just like he
Invisible to all who see.
A lonely man, his work day done
Another rush hour drudge begun
Amidst the throng who inch ahead
On metal moving coffins tread
A lonely man, at his front door
They never greet him anymore
A stranger now invades their space
Still wearing his familiar face
A lonely man, he eats his food
Prepares for bed, his mood subdued
This home which once was full of life
Now weathered in dysfunctional strife
A lonely man, in some regards
Within this crowded house of cards
He share’s life’s path, though on his own
To live and die each day alone

THE BALLAD OF THE OLD MAN
“Hey kids, get off my lawn.”
The little old man said
“Kids, they have no respect,
The lonely man
he sits and wonders
where all his friends went.
He sits at the table
ledger in hand
and sees all the money
Three square and a call,
Then where were you?
Lonesome and all;
All by alone, I mean all alone.
Cold window panes,
Aimed

"A Lonely Man"
All day long
He circles the parking lots
Picking up anything he can find
Anything sellable
His headphones
by J.B. Hickock
He felt the soft sunlight fall across his shoulders like a warm blanket,
He heard the tinkling of the brook like the laughter
