So, after several years of struggle and hard work, you have finally got your business properly put together. Business is consistent, and your company enjoys a healthy flow of revenues, thanks to existing customers. Then suddenly you felt different. There is this sudden felt of emptiness, and you started to ask yourself, is this all that there is? Am I just going to sit back and enjoy life now? Well, if you do that, your competitors will probably start eating you alive.
Nowadays businesses need to achieve sustainable growth in order to ensure long term survival. To assure this, businessmen need to keep figuring out how to create more success in their business. The question here is how do we go about doing it? Well, as the great strategist from the oriental, Sun Tzu quotes. ” Know thyself, know thy enemy. A thousand battles, a thousand victories.” Most modern business strategy adopts this concept. Here are just some systematic approaches of applying it:
Internal Evaluation of Strengths and Weaknesses
To acquire more success, it is essential that you know the strengths and weaknesses of your business. If not, you would not know where to start improving. Know what your company’s strengths are and try to improve on it if possible. This enables your company to maintain that competitive advantage it has over other competitors. In the long run, that strength will attract more success to your business. Weaknesses, however hard to manage, must be at least made aware of. Of course, it would be great if it could be eliminated completely. But in reality, this is not always possible. Try compensating the weaknesses with the strengths of your company. For example, if business sales and profits are good, but customer services are poor and employee morale low, spending some money on training and staff motivation would be a good idea.
External Evaluation of Opportunities and Threats
For a business to grow and become more successful, it has to grow and seize every opportunity that may come along its way. Therefore a company must be sensitive to any external opportunities that may come its way. Research and first hand information is a must in seizing any money making opportunity. Evaluate the feasibility and the risks before proceeding. Another element to watch out is any threats that may come into the way of achieving your business goals. Obstacles like competition, new products or government regulations that compromises your business must be manage well.
Branding/Image
Branding of a product and the image of a company are also important factors that will help company create more success. It denotes integrity and quality, which is vital for a company’s continuous success. A good brand and image is like an ace in a pack of cards. It stands out from other competitors and can be used as a powerful marketing tool. That is why, many companies are willing to go to great lengths to build up a good brand name or image.
Creating more success in business is somewhat more of a commitment rather than a desire. It is a responsible to the shareholders and workers within a company. A continuous effort that must involved all people in an organization to achieve excellence in what they do. Be it an ice cream factory or a consultancy firm. There must be a collective effort from all people within an organization working towards a common goal. If that can be done, I think it will be just a matter of time before success comes knocking at the door.
