Poetry: Weekends

by Joyce Arriola

Created on: January 19, 2010

on a Friday
that travesty decided to begin
in lieu with the references
of careless honesty within
right left, left right
heads turn toward ample lights
into daybreak slowly sheds
nary a worry of the fortress ahead.

on a Saturday
eggshells flank the pavement
carefully trodding back and forth
purple marshes subtly compliment
spins out of control
dollar bills thrown into the fold
at its peak it narrowly escapes
the chaos the weekend wants to placate.

on a Sunday
the reminder of fatigue
starts to settle in deep
avoidance of the almighty league
save the bills throw out the keys
rest to relax ankles and knees
promises made to again restart
the travesty that the weekend brought.
