Keeping an office clean is not only a more relaxing work environment, it is healthier. If you work in an office, you know how quickly your desk and other areas of the office can become dusty and dirty. There are ways to maintain a clean work environment without taking too much time to do it.
Here are some tips on maintaining a clean work environment:
Dusting
Dust your desk and the area around your desk at least once a week. Although the cleaning crew will generally vacuum within your cubicle or office, they usually will not touch your desk. It is your job to make sure that you do it. If you want to make sure that it is also germ free, purchase cleaning wipes that also disinfect. These don’t cost much but they work well for what you need.
Clutter
Throw away papers that you no longer need right away. File anything that needs filed as soon as they are ready to be filed. Don’t keep a lot of personal things on your desk. A few personal things is okay, but you can over do it. The less you have on your desk, the less you will have to do when you dust as well.
Spills
If you spill something on the carpet, make sure that you clean it up. The same thing goes for dropping crumbs. When food and drinks get ground into the carpet, it will stay there for a long time. This makes the office look very dirty. Clean it up right away and the stains won’t be nearly as bad.
Break Room
The break room is a place that is meant to give you some rest. If you go into the lunch room and the trash is overflowing and people have left their trash everywhere, it doesn’t feel like a good place to get that rest let alone eat a meal. Clean up after you eat your lunch. Don’t leave the break room in a shambles. Take empty containers home and don’t leave food in the refrigerator for two weeks. Clean up your dishes and if the trash is overflowing, get another bag.
Treat your work environment as though it were your home. There is nothing worse than someone who doesn’t realize how much damage they are doing by not keeping their work areas clean along with other parts of the company property. It is unhealthy to have a dirty work environment. It also doesn’t help with morale. Cleaning up your work environment will make the day pass by much faster.
