How to reach your weight-loss goals

Attaining your weight loss goals takes commitment, organization, and patience.  Without these factors in place, weight loss has the potential to become a frustrating and overwhelming task.  Set specific goals, be organized, and stay committed to see your weight loss goals come to fruition.

Setting Specific Goals

Setting goals is the first step on the road to successful weight loss.  First, decide exactly how much weight you would like to lose or what you would like your ideal weight to be.  Having an exact number will enable you to focus on the finish line, instead of being lost out on the course.  Be sure your goals are realistic and attainable.  Many people focus on only the final, goal, thus becoming overwhelmed and discouraged throughout the process.  Setting smaller, more attainable goals will enable you to be successful and encouraged as you work your way through the weight loss process.

The only way to assess progress is to set weight loss goals that are measurable.  Outline exact milestones, such as losing a specific number of pounds by a specific date, or going to the gym Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  Putting timelines on your goals will force you to hold yourself accountable.  Setting smaller, measurable goals, such as bi-weekly weigh ins, can give you motivation and more immediate senses of accomplishment along the way.

Organization

In order to truly reach your weight loss goals, organization is a must.  Schedule exercise into your day, just as you would any other appointment.  Stick to your schedule and keep your eyes on the goal.  Also, planning weekly meals is critical in avoiding diet mishaps.  The weekend is a great time to prepare meals in advance, and plan what will be eaten for each meal of the week.  This type of organization leaves no room for error when it comes to the busy work week.

Commitment

Reaching your weight loss goals may take time. Focus on small successes and try to enjoy the process.  Experiment with new activities and foods.  Join a weight loss group for support and friendship.  And also, focus on how your body feels as you become healthier.  Staying focused on your internal motivation and setting smaller goals along the way will encourage you and help you stay committed.  Having specific goals, being organized, and staying committed will deliver the results you desire.
