Marriage, historically, has been a religious joining of two people of the opposite sex. It was made an official, legal contract by people in power and in politics. Now, with the question of same sex marriage on everyones mind, we are hearing religion from the mouths of people in power. When did these two things join up again? I was under the impression that Church and State are two different entities. State is out there to be the parent figure for society. They are out there to make "the rules" and set the laws and not there to tell people how they should live behind closed doors.
If someone chooses to go to a church and choose a religion, it is this entity which coaxes them into living their way, if they choose to do so. So, people who don't choose one of these religions should be allowed to follow whatever they wish. But, because a large portion of the voting majority chooses religion over no religion this puts those in power in a precarious position. They have to be religious and uphold many common religious values in order to gain popularity and reelection. Why do people in power mention God in their speeches? Let me tell you, its for votes.
It's unfortunate that we are limiting people in our society and telling them that they cannot get support for living their personal lives the way they wish. People in power and their many followers are forcing a common biblical idea on those who do not live their lives by that book. The big misconception out there is that this discrimated demographic is the way they are by choice. Let me say this: no gay person out there is gay because they just want to be "immoral" and different. People do not choose to be gay! And once everyone out there gets that through their head, only then can we adapt proper inclusive standards for marriage in this country.
Whats really wrong with letting people be happy? Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, thats a principle this country was founded on. What happened to that? Now I guess the idea has evolved into: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as long as that pursuit and that happiness falls into a biblical definition of morality and whats acceptable. If we are really a free country then this group of people out there would be allowed to do what makes them happy like everyone else. They could get married to the person they love and have it be a recognized union of two monogamous parters. Excuse me, but I thought a prosperous society was one full of people who are happy, healthy, and free. We are not carbon copies of the same person, lets start thinking outside the box.
I just want to say that I was baptised Catholic and I have believed in God all my life. But what I do not believe is that a God would exist out there that would give us free will and offer forgiveness and then tell us we were wrong for the way we lived our life. Especially when being gay, is not a lifestyle choice. It is a trait, like dark hair or green eyes. Lets see this inclusion for what it really is...communistic. As for the religious people out there, God loves everyone and if your religion doesn't tell you that then I'd be pretty afraid for yourself. Everyone sins and I bet God looks down on you when you commit adultery, steal, or judge others. Judging is for God and for God alone. I'm sorry you are under the impression that you are divine and know what constitues as immoral and hell-worthy behavior. Maybe you should go look in the mirror before you judge others. No one out there is without sin. Worry about saving your own soul.
