Hair care: Treatments for damaged hair

If you envy the shampoo models’ beautiful smooth hair, rest assured you are not alone.  Millions of women wish for the same thing and like you they get fooled by what the commercials promise.

How to treat damaged hair is fairly easy.  When at the department store, ignore the cheap shampoos and conditioners, mousses, gels, serums, and other so called miracle products.  All those products are based on alcohol and alcohol damages hair.

Instead of reaching for the brands you had no success with, maybe you could try organic shampoo and conditioner.  They cost a little more, but they are worth it.  If you were to add up what you spend on products that don’t work, spending a little money on products that do work might not be such a bad idea.

If you want to treat your dry ends or damaged hair in general, there are three natural remedies.

Nature’s number one miracle worker is olive oil.  Put a few drops in the palm of your hand, rub hands together and smooth the oil over your hair, paying particular attention to the end.  Although your hair will appear greasy at first, but within half an hour your hair will absorb the oil leaving it silky smooth.

Number two: eggs.  Beat a couple of eggs and massage the mixture onto your hair.  The richness of the eggs is the perfect remedy for damaged tresses.

Number three, mayonnaise.  Mayonnaise is a mixture of oil and eggs and as such goodness in a jar.  Put a generous amount in your hair and let it rest.

Wash hair thoroughly the next day.

If you want to style your hair, use the coolest setting of your hair dryer and avoid curling irons or flatirons altogether.  The heat of these appliances do great damage.

For hair upkeep chose a brush with soft bristles and a wide toothed comb.  Be gentle with your hair, brush and comb as if you have all the time in the world.  Rough handling of your hair will only result in breakage and loss of hair.

The treatment of damaged hair does not stop there though.  Your diet is just as important as the right products.  Stop eating junk food and start eating plenty of fruit and veggies, your hair needs the vitamin and minerals.  Reduce alcohol consumption and reach for a glass of water now and then.  Work a few almonds in your daily diet and start exercising.  It won’t be long before you see the results.
