Tips for archiving your MP3s

Organizing files and folders on your hard drive is no different than anything else that requires organization so that life is a bit easier. I have always let files accumulate in different folders, and always forgetting where they are, and quite often I end up having multiple files with the same content.

The easy way out is always going to bite you in the end, and to think that tending to it later is the answer, then you might as well prepare yourself for a long stretch on the PC to sort things out. That is of course you allow yourself to accumulate a lot of files that should have been filed correctly.

Always clicking the save button without thinking about where it will be saved to, will almost always end up in a search for the files so that you can organize them in a way that you can readily access them. The "save as" is useful for always opening the folder for which you want to save all the files for any particular folder once you have saved the first file to that folder.

I did a lot of music downloads via audio capture, and because I didn't want to miss the beginning of the next song, I would just hit "save" and figure I'd get to it at another time. There is always a price for everything isn't there? Once you have created folders for your different types of music formats, it is then a matter of transferring all the files that belong in their respected folders, so that in the future, you can access them with ease, instead of roaming all over the place trying to locate any particular file.

Archiving your music sensibly pays off when wanting to find the file.To make it even more convenient when you may want to burn music to a CD, create folders that contain a "mix" of all the music you'd prefer to burn to CD at a later date. Once you've done so, instead of letting the program your using automatically store the file, just choose which folder you want each selection to be saved to. When you are satisfied you have enough saved music files to burn to a CD, simply choose the folder which contains your favorites (a mix)or from the many folders each containing the style of music you've saved.

You can always drag and drop music from your various folders to a folder that would contain a mix of all your favorites.
Not to worry about having duplicate files should you copy and paste music from one folder to another as MP3 formats take little space on your hard drive.
