Now more than ever, it is important for businesses to form relationships with customers. They want to see you as real, not some untouchable corporate empire. If a prospective customer or client has just heard about your company and wants to know more they will likely visit your website. Your “About Us” page needs to satisfy their curiosity and help them feel comfortable enough to do business with you.
Your “About Us” webpage is a good place to include your mission statement, philosophy, and core values. Answer the questions; Why does the company exist? What do you hope to achieve? What is the nature of the business? What are you committed to? People like to do business with companies that have the same ideals as they do.
Your “About Us” page should give a brief history of the company, where and how it began. List the highlights in chronological order or share an interesting tale of how you got started. Tell your audience how your years of experienced and skill combined to bring you where you are today.
Keep your “About Us” webpage light and factual. No, you don’t need to tell every detail or even mention past failures. You should not exaggerate or outright lie either. If you were caught in a lie, just think how damaging that would be to your company’s reputation. Don’t claim to know everything or be the best. People appreciate a business that is committed to continuing education and improvement.
Focus on the product or service you provide. You don’t need to tell your personal life story. Nor should you try to sell directly on this page. Keep your purpose in mind as you write. Let your potential customers know who you are and why you can deliver what you promise.
Don’t forget to include contact information. Make it easy for people to give feedback or ask questions. Websites need to be interactive more now than ever. Thank your visitors for taking the time to get to know the company.
A well written “About Us” page for your business website could make the difference in whether or not you succeed in gaining new business. Take the time to craft it well. Don’t forget to spell check and proofread. Remember, it is a combination of your image, exposure, and awareness that will get sales. An “About Us” page that builds relationships and confidence gives your company a professional image and competitive advantage.
