“When you are going thorough hell keep going,”this famous quotation of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill essentially tells us to keep moving away from whatever hell is for us at that moment. Do not stay in a disasterous situation. War and natural disaster both create situations where people need reevaluation to look at the way they have been building their lives. disaster claim so much time and energy people are trying to survive. Evaluating the way buildings were buildt and people were located will help minimize any earthquake disaster of the future.
The images of people piled in Haiti are as bad as those of World War II victims of holocaust. Part of turning tragedy into an opportunity may be learning how to treat the dead. If bulldozing dead bodies in Haiti is necessary, at least people filming could have more respect for those who are still alive and looking at the news trying to understand what is happening to them and stop showing such films if bulldozing cannot be avoided. There are standards for handling dead bodies including the protective clothing that the persons who should have minimal contacts the dead bodies and hepatitis vaccines to help prevent the spread of any infectious diseases. Piling up dead bodies is not going to help the living. Bodies should be examined and marked for potential infectious disease risks. Bodies should be covered with plastic swabbed in 1000 p.p.m. hydrochloride. The cavities of the bodies should have swabs soaked in this 1000 p.p.m. also. Leaving the dead bodies open and exposed causes them to be vulnerable to spread rabies, plague, and seriously threatening the living. Haitians have a history of prosperity that means they are capable of beautiful fine art sculpture figural iron works created from discarded oil wells. Haitians overcome by grief will recover their love of country and family through memorials and tributes that will hold those they have lost close to them however absent from their lives. Burial mounds are not uncommon when many people die at one time. Thinking ahead to allow for such Haitian memorials is another way to turn this tragedy into opportunity.
