Whereas knitting and crocheting were once necessary tasks if ordinary families wanted to wear warm clothes in the winter, nowadays, it has become much more of a hobby. Unfortunately, it can be quite an expensive hobby, with crafters often having to consider whether they can afford the yarn to make a project before they begin it. Treating them to products that will help them realise projects that they might not otherwise be able to afford is therefore a great idea for a gift. However, gifts don't necessarily need to break the bank either. Here are some suggestions for great gifts for people who love to knit and crochet.
Unusual yarn
There are some amazing yarns available these days - some are so luxurious that most people wouldn't be able to afford them on a regular basis. If you choose to buy yarn for your crafter, the best idea is to go to a yarn shop rather than try to pick it from the Internet. Speak to the proprietor, especially if you are not really a knitter or crocheter yourself, and see what they recommend. Also consider buying patterns to go with the yarn. Although most yarns can be used to make a variety of projects, the amount of yarn that you need can differ and you want to make sure that your crafter has enough wool to complete a project.
Selection of yarns
Many knitters and crocheters like to make toys and other small gifts. In this case, they will almost certainly appreciate a basket of different yarns. If you are strapped for cash, then you could even consider buying partly used balls of yarn or find end of the line yarn. Try charity shops and second-hand shops which often have yarn available - you will probably need to collect yarn over a period of time to ensure that you get a variety of colours and textures. You could also try asking friends and relatives if they have any bits of yarn that they can give you.
Pattern books
Many crafters choose to download free patterns from the Internet these days, simply because shop-bought patterns can be so very expensive. However, free Internet patterns tend to be limited and certainly aren't particularly up-to-date. Choose beautiful pattern books that have a variety of fashionable patterns, preferably ones that would appeal to the crafter themselves - many knitters and crocheters are so busy making things for other people that they forget about making something for themselves.
All-in-one kits
There are a number of kits these days that include the yarn, needles and pattern for a projecdt.
