College students all over the United States are already thinking about their plans for spring break. As they trudge across campus, wrapped in down coats, heavy winter boots, hats, mittens and scarves, their minds wander to thoughts of warm and sunny places, white sandy beaches and places where they can spend their vacation in shorts of swimming suits.
The current economic climate may have forced many students to alter their plans so that they don't go to the most expensive, trendy and far away destinations. In the event that it's necessary to stay closer to home, here is a look at some top places to visit for spring break 2010.
*Miami -
South Beach is a wonderful destination. The white sandy beaches, the vibrant night life, the eclectic culture and the great food will entice any young college student looking to escape the seemingly never ending cold winter temperatures. Many airlines fly to Miami, so there will be plenty of flights and the airfares may vary by airline and flight time.
*Panama City, Florida -
The travel channel consistently rates the beaches of Panama City among the top ten in the United States. Nestled along the gulf coast of the Florida panhandle, Panama City has beautiful beaches, a happening night life and is always a great destination, especially for those who can't afford to venture out of the United States.
*Tampa -
Tampa is another place with great beaches. It is a large enough city to have plenty to do, and the weather is warm and sunny, making it an ideal destination for people coming from the cold and wintry conditions of the northern states. Tampa is also easily accessible by many airlines and direct flights won't be a problem.
*South Padre Island -
At the southern tip of Texas, South Padre Island is a strip of land that jettisons the Gulf of Mexico. It's a great location for spring break because many people who have time shares are willing to rent them out to college students. If the time share isn't your thing, many of the beach front hotels offer package deals for students who wish to come down for the week.
The weather is great, and the beaches are splendid. You won't need to pack much more than swimsuits and shorts and tank tops or t-shirts. If you like to swim or hang out in the water, be sure to check out Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark at South Padre Island.
*San Antonio -
Home to the Alamo, San Antonio boasts many fabulous sites, warm weather, a spectacular riverwalk and Sea World. There are many places to stay, and for those
