“Why Christian leadership competencies need substantial change and discernment”

When I first read this article title, a bombardment of things came to my mind regarding this issue in the church in America. Oh my…the leadership within our churches are so ignorant when it comes to the Word of God! Sometimes, I think that maybe I’m just being way too critical when it comes to certain things; but when I go to God’s Word He reassures me that my thoughts on certain matters are things that He has taught me from His Word, therefore; they are NOT my opinions; I am not judging those around me and trying to conform them to my beliefs; but instead, God has renewed my mind in accordance to His Word on these matters. Ultimately, God is the Judge. I am merely the messenger of His Word.  By the way, the matters that I’m about to share are not “gray areas” in Scripture. They are areas where, even me, a mere layman can KNOW what God is saying to me, as His child, in Scripture. What is mindboggling to me is that I have never been to Bible College; I don’t have that much College training at all; yet I CAN read from Scripture certain “what it says is what it means” verses; yet the Pastors within our churches have no recollection of these Scriptures what so ever. What is the matter with this picture, folks? I’m just flabbergasted by it all.

Some may say, “We are all growing.” Yes, I do agree with that observation in that we are all at different levels in the faith. That is a true statement. The sheep are ‘under the authority of’ the Shepherd and the Shepherd is held more accountable to the LORD because of his position in the church. The Shepherd is supposed to LEAD the sheep in the “right way”. I do believe that the Shepherd continues to “grow” also, but these black and white areas should be OBVIOUS to the Shepherd!  Again, some things in Scripture are there to be understood immediately. Do we understand, “Do not lie”; Do not steal”, and Do not murder”? Simple commandments, right? So there are others that do not require a degree to understand.

Let me elaborate on the fact that we are all at different levels in the faith. Some Christians grow in the faith and some Christians remain “babes in Christ” by their own choosing. Those who choose to remain “babes in Christ” obviously have a lack of discernment even
