The good news about undergraduate business schools, according to Business Week, is that they are no longer a haven for the unmotivated or for those who are in search of an easy degree. Undergraduate business school degrees are now being considered as competetitive with the MBAs of yore, and companies are glad to hire graduates who attended quality schools and the best institutions.
In California, the University of California school system carries a cachet of it's own, especially if one is fortunate enough to have attended the flagship campus: The University of California at Berkeley, or the only campus that is to be called "Cal". There, the Haas School of Business has tied with MIT for second place in the 2009 evaluations. The Bachelor of Science degree program offers a program that is well rounded to provide a comprehensive understanding of finance, economics, marketing, management, leadership, organizational behavior, managerial accounting and more areas. The University of California at Berkeley is located in the San Francisco Bay area, one of the most beautiful and culturally important regions of the state, and home of the technological and financial explosions that occurred in the silicon valley, Berkeley, and San Francisco. Cal graduates have very good postgraduate hiring averages, but competition for admission is stiff.
Another great California institution, California Polytechnic University or "Cal Poly", has earned great ratings for their bachelors program which gives an overall approach to business management, with a technological focus on the latest technology and softwares that are used in businesses. Cal Poly was created over 100 years ago to educate students in the arts and sciences, and is considered by some to be the Western version of MIT. Cal Poly is located in San Louis Obispo, at California's stunning central coast area. This university, along with Cal Berkeley, were the only two California business schools to make the Business Week top 100 ranking nationwide for business schools. As with Cal graduates, Cal Poly graduates have very good postgraduate hiring averages.
San Diego State University is a part of California's state grant and is classified as a research university. The Bachelors program at San Diego State University is ranked second among all public business schools in California. This school has an International Business School program that is the largest in the nation. Located in San Diego County, California, this university is convenient to Los Angeles, about an hour and a half away, and is in a beautiful seaside environment that is one of the most desirable and temperate places to live in California. The reputation of all University of California system schools is such that graduates are in high demand and competition for admission is high.
