Waiting For the Day I Go
I swim in the despair of my own tears;
A complex masterpiece of wasted years.
Quickly milestones clicked by
without a single question as to why.
Responsibility took command,
So we walked on hand in hand.
You wouldn't question love
We thought a gift from above;
And held a glorious parade
of the contract that we'd made.
Simply drifted off to sea
leaving only you and me.
We toiled a life of prosperity
that brought me to insanity.
My crying soon replaced
the gentle smile that donned my face.
The dream I'd held erased
by the misery we chased.
And the clicking in my brain
softly calling me to run,
Though I stood there in my fear
We ticked away another year.
To the grave we walked just so,
Waiting for the day I'd go. . .
