The day was finally here. It was the morning I had been waiting for, for the last six months. The day of our great getaway. It was a beautifully sunny morning and the birds were singing off in the distance and I could feel my excitement growing with every breath. I sprung out of bed and ran down the hall to wake my parents up. I knocked on their door and ran right in. My dad was still asleep, but my mom had been quietly packing their things. She looked up at me and smiled as she saw the energy in my eyes.
I went over to where she was and gave her a huge kiss and hug. She tapped me on the butt and told me to start the coffee so she could wake my father up. I ran downstairs and nearly ran my younger brother over in the process. He had apparently woken up very early, because he had already started the coffee and was now making some pancakes for everyone. I could smell the bacon cooking and instantly became hungry.
He told me that he couldn't sleep, so he got up and got everything ready. Then, decided to make breakfast so we could leave right away. I admired his spirit. Especially, since he hadn't wanted to go at first. I gave him a big kiss and ran upstairs to get dressed and get my suitcases downstairs. My mom and I had gotten a whole new wardrobe for the trip and I was trying to pick out the best outfit to go with my new boots. After about an hour of trying to decide, I finally picked an outfit out and went downstairs with my bags.
By this time, my dad was already up, dressed, and eating breakfast. My brother was going on about how much fun we were all going to have and my mom was preparing a few thermoses with hot cocoa and coffee for our long drive. I went over to the fridge and took out the snacks that we had prepared the night before and put them into the picnic basket.
After breakfast, my dad and brother started to pack the car with what seemed to be a years' worth of luggage. My mom watched them and laughed as they tried to figure out where to put everything. I went outside to help and couldn't help but laugh myself. Watching them was like watching "Laurel and Hardy" do a comedy routine.
An hour and a half later...
We were finally on the road. The car felt like it was carrying a dozen cows; the way it cried. Anyway, we made it to the airport just before they closed the gates. They took our
