How to destroy a werewolf

by Laura Moore

Created on: January 15, 2010

Werewolves exist in two distinct forms. First, a true lycanthrope. A human who physically and mentally transforms into a wolf in conjunction with the phases of the moon. As opposed to a vampire, no trace of humanity remains while in animal form. Neither does the werewolf recall any memory of the wolf’s forays once reverted to human. Second, a zoomorphic werewolf. Like the first type, the zoomorphic werewolf’s transformation also coincides with the lunar calendar. The difference being this human merely takes on the temperament, characteristic traits, and instincts of the wolf. While the zoomorphic werewolf may gain fangs, claws, and additional hair or fur, he remains mostly human in appearance. Zoomorphic creatures exist throughout the world and across the ages. The most notable being the Berserkers of Norway. The Vikings feed hallucinogenic mushrooms to these extremely vicious warriors, which induced a fury proving the Berserkers appear unstoppable in battle. Berserkers wore the skins of bears making infamous their transformation into the revered bear.

One must determine which type of werewolf one is faced with prior to destroying the creature. A zoomorphic werewolf, whether medicinally induced or mystically transformed, can be killed in any fashion adequate for stopping a strong human. However, while in his wolf-life state, this werewolf’s frenzy will enhance his ability to endure all attacks. Where a single mortal wound would stop a mere human, the same injury may not phase this creature. The damage will kill with time, yet he will continue to attack until the last drop of blood and final breath have left him.

Now, the true lycanthrope possesses unparalleled mystical powers. The ability to change from one living creature into an entirely different form requires enormous fortitude and magic. This werewolf’s strength far surpasses humans. He heals rapidly from nearly all otherwise mortal injuries. Two injuries exists that the werewolf is unable to overcome. The first, removal of his heart. The lycanthrope is a living creature and therefore cannot survive without a heart. Only a silver blade can penetrate the wolf’s flesh without it healing too fast to remove the organ. The opportunity to gain proximity to perform such a killing is an entirely different story. The second means is decapitation. There exists no creature, living, dead, or undead, which can survive without its head. This task must also be accomplished with a silver
