Poetry: The end

So this is it then?

The END?

A text from you saying that you were seeing someone else

You had been distracted last night and forgotten to tell

Does this mean you are no longer my friend?

I’ve known you now for several years

We’ve flirted, laughed and shed a few tears

In between I thought we had grown a strong bond

Just goes to show

How did I get it wrong?

Even last night you shared dinner with me

We chatted and smiled to a large degree.

On my wrist I still have your Christmas gift.

On my lips a faint trace of your parting kiss

You left saying I’ll see you soon

Is that a pig flying over the moon?

So this is it then?

The end it seems,

A parting of ways

The end to my dreams of a love shared

It feels like I wasted time and tears

On someone who never really cared

So off you will go

Bathed in love’s rosy glow

I’m left with gallons of tears

A heart that’s in pieces

Loveless, battered and forlorn

I’m numb and I’m angry

Shattered and sad

Shafted and taken for granted

I feel I’ve been totally had.
