With heart health becoming a growing concern, February has been named national Heart Health Awareness month and National Wear Red Day will be held on Friday, February 5 this year. Women it seems are taking an active role in this campaign due to the high risk women face today. The fact is, a woman is at a higher risk for heart problems than she is for breast cancer.
“The Heart Truth,” an organization started in 2002, is leading the way for women to get involved and spread awareness.

To help it along, several celebrities have given their time to the organization. Last year’s Red Dress Collection featured 20 female celebrities in 20 red designer dresses from 20 of the world’s top designers. Included in this list were: Amanda Beard wearing Cushnie et Ochs, Amanda Bynes for Daniel Swarovski, Brittany Snow for Marchesa, Cicely Tyson for b. michael, Daisy Fuentes for Pamella Roland, Hilary Duff for Donna Karan, Jane Kaczmarek for Rafael Cennamo, Jennie Garth for Badgley Mischka, Katie Couric for Carmen Marc Valvo, Kristi Yamaguchi for Vera Wang, Lynda Carter for Carolina Herrera, Nastia Liukin for Max Azria, Natasha Henstridge for Verrier, Nia Long for Tracy Reese, Patricia Arquette for Nicole Miller, Samantha Harris for David Meister, Susan Lucci for Gustavo Cadile, Tori Spelling for Betsey Johnson, Valerie Bertinelli for Christian Siriano, and Vivica A. Fox for Jenny Packham.

Katie Couric, an anchor for the CBS Evening News, is the backbone of their health and medical coverage. Having lost her husband, Jay Monahan, to colorectal cancer in 1998; her sister, Emily Couric, to pancreatic cancer in 2001 and struggling with a father, John, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, she exploded into the media covering health awareness issues. Most known for her televised colonoscopy, it has become her mission to tell the world medical conditions, like cancer and heart disease, can be prevented. She joined the Red Dress Collection last year spreading the word that heart disease is a concern.

Also well known for her fight against heart disease is Heidi Klum, who participated in the Red Dress Collection
