A drop of water, or so it's said
will follow a path downward into a trickle
till chill in the air and cold in the wind
will turn that drop into an icicle
each drop that is added seems to stretch the show
and cone of ice is empirically made
till the sun hath no power to unfreeze this flow
and the icicle lives deep within it's winter shade
some would see it as an ominous thing
an entity born for the spearing of the man
as it falls with the weight of a hundred ounces or more
and shatters as only true forms of ice can
they see this sign of winter and cold
and they shiver to think that it exists even at all
yet they watch with horror as the slightest shiver or shake
from its ever sturdy base this ice missile can fall
a child will look at it in wonder and awe
and see not a missile but an ice sword instead
and after breaking off the perfect length and holding it just so
will strike at the beast imaginary, taking it's head.
They will stare as it twists and turns in the sun
watching long the length and the colors it may hold
and wonder how something so beautiful can exist
in a world that is white and ever so cold
it is a symbol of all that is wintery as we know
it's beauty is a sight to behold that is sure
and when the rays of springs sun will strike it anew
it will melt away, dripping, and be no more
Till next time we see this imagery of the Yule
and till next time we see the snow fall from the sky
keep your eye on the eves and on the undersides of the cars
for an icicle you will most surely spy.

Icicles:
I am mesmerized by your frigid beauty,
sun-kissed, first light passes through your
transparent
Surrounded, they entangle me
The blades, they circle above
The night has kept them
Frozen silently in place
Granting me

The bite of blizzard breaks through skin to soul
To strip a man of will, his heart to ice.
One breath of frigid air sends
Glistening jewels of magic
Reigning in majestic splendor
Basking in your sun shined hue
I can sense your simple candor
