Poetry: Hats, mittens & scarves

by Joyce Bueter

Created on: January 14, 2010

Time for the mittens the scarves and the hat

even boots and a snowsuit

might be included in that

you’re going outside mom does declare

you’re driving me nuts, get out of my hair!

The snow banks are high with long winter’s snows

kids trapped inside with nowhere to go

screaming and yelling have led mom to agree

out playing in snow is the best place to be

All of the gear is dragged from dark places

and placed on the children with now beaming faces

they run out to play promptly rolling in snow

it’s just a few minutes til one has to “go”

So it’s back to the house and moms in a huff

it just takes forever to remove all that stuff

the child cannot stand still there is pain on his face

while the snow is now dripping all over the place

It’s off with the mittens, the scarf and the hat

the boots and the snowsuit soon follow that

there’s a run to the bathroom and mom starts to fret

she knows the days young, it’s not over yet!
