The bedroom should be a sanctuary, but too often it ends up being a catch all for everything you don’t want guests to see. Reclaim your bedroom by following the steps below.
• Purge the Room
The first step is to de-clutter. You may have piles of laundry to deal with, books and bills that never made it to their storing places and other knick knacks that need to find a permanent home. While tackling the entire bedroom can be a bit overwhelming, the task becomes a lot easier if you break the room into smaller project areas. For instance, you can clean out your closets first and then move on to other exposed surfaces, but don’t try to do everything at once.
• Make Use of Closet Organizers
If the closet is well organized a lot of the clutter that is now clogging up your bedroom can find a home. Although you may think you don’t have enough storage space, a strategic approach to your closet system can rectify your problem for a minimal cost. The best thing about this tip is when you invest in a professional closet system you not only improve your life and organize your room, but you also add value to your home. Home owners are usually able to fully recoup the cost of closet organizers upon the sale of the home, so it is well worth making the investment now.
• Clear Every Surface
Next it’s time to tackle the nightstands and desk surfaces. One easy way to do this is by making a clean sweep. Toss everything from the surfaces in your room into a box for cleaning and sorting. Then wipe and polish your furniture and start to set things back into place. You can leave the overflow in the box and take your time finding a new place to put them or throwing them out as the case may be.
• Have a System for Laundry
Laundry accounts for a sizeable portion of the clutter in most bedrooms. This is because clothes somehow end up in a sort of laundry purgatory, either on their way to the laundry basket or the closet. Implementing a system to deal with clothes that you have worn and sticking to a rule that you attend to clean clothes immediately after taking them out of the dryer can help to eliminate this problem.
A clutter free and organized bedroom is only a few steps away, so set aside the weekend and you’ll be on your way to a serene and beautiful bedroom.
