Featuring an epic plot, an all-star cast, and dramatic visuals, the Pirates of the Caribbean series has firmly stapled itself as a cinematic marvel. Based on a Walt Disney park ride, no critic could have guessed how much of a success this action/adventure pirate movie would be. The movies were directed by Gore Verbinski, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, and written by Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot. The series, consisting of three movies and one being created, stars Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, and Geoffrey Rush. Johnny Depp plays a not-so-average savvy pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow, who is always unpredictable. Orlando Bloom plays a young blacksmith, Will Turner, who will do whatever it takes to fight for what he believes in. Keira Knightley portrays Elizabeth Swan, a beautiful young and independent noblewoman on the Port Royal, the city where Will works as a blacksmith. Lastly, Geoffrey Rush plays an interesting pirate, Captain Barbossa, who has ties to Captain Jack Sparrow.
The Curse of the Black Pearl is the first movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. spotlights the crew of a mysterious ship called the Black Pearl. Captain Jack Sparrow was the previous owner of the ship, but was under the control of Captain Barbossa. The crew of the Black Pearl was cursed from powerful Aztec gold. They were forced to live eternally on the ship, unless they returned all of the pieces of the gold. As the movie progresses, you are introduced to Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan, as they fight for their lives and each other.
The second addition to the series, Dead Man's Chest, introduces Davy Jones, a powerful creature of the sea who forces those who died at sea to work for him in constant torture. It follows Will Smith, who was arrested by Lord Cutler Beckett, for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow, who had arrangements to be hung for piracy. However, Lord Beckett allowed to free Will if he tracked down Jack and steal his magical compass. The movie is filled with action, and you are able to follow up on the lives of the main characters, and are introduced to a few new and interesting ones.
At World's End is the third installment to the series. In the movie, Lord Cutler Beckett gains control over Davy Jones, and will stop at nothing to put a permanent stop to piracy. To fight back against the East India Trading Company, Will Turner sets off to save Captain Jack Sparrow from Davy Jones' locker. Although they are against the odds, Will and the rest of his crew will fight for what they believe in.
Overall, the Pirates of the Caribbean series is a true phenomenon. Each movie is filled with action, adventure, romance, and comedy dispersed throughout. The characters in the movies are all very unique, and you will remember them well after you watch the movies. The actors did a spectacular job of portraying the pirates. It is interesting how the creatures of Pirates of the Caribbean took a Walt Disney theme park ride and turned it into an all-out cinematic masterpiece. Whether you are young or old, you will be able to enjoy Pirates of the Caribbean, as it is packed with a highly interesting plot, inspirational and unique characters, and stellar visuals.
