Tips for playing Scrabble

Scrabble is a game of skill, cunning and vocabulary. It is not sufficient that you know a lot of words and you pose as a human dictionary. Scrabble is also about playing the right letters and the right words at the right time. It is also a matter of  giving yourself good scoring opportunities as well as denying the same to your opponents. Here are some tips to help your game.

-Take advantage of bonuses - There are multiple bonuses on the board such as double letter, triple letter, double word and triple word bonuses. This is a simple way to rack up points without extra effort. When coming up with a word, try to position it in such a way that the score is maximized. If you made a word like EXIT and there was an opportunity to hit a double letter score box, make sure to hit it with the X  since it would maximize scoring and net you 19 points. Otherwise, if you place any other letter on the bonus, then you would only score 12.

-Improve your vocabulary - Improving your vocabulary increases the amount of ammunition you have. Try to memorize as many two to four letter words as much as possible since you would be making a lot of these  throughout the game. The more words you know, the more scoring opportunities you have and the more you could maximize the letters you get.

-Play to your strengths - If you are a novice to intermediate player, try to play defensively and deny people scoring opportunity. The trick to doing this is to come up with short words such as two to four letter words and place them in a position that they are close to each other and lock up a side of the board. If you are an expert player, try to outscore the opponent by making long words and taking advantages of board bonuses and bingos.

-Make multiple words - Place your tiles in such a way that they make multiple words. A good example would be placing the word TAR on top of the word WINE. If you position the T above the I, the A above the N and the R above the E, then you could score multiple times and form four words namely TAR, TI, AN and RE.

-Link words - A nifty trick to use is to use letters such as R, D and S to link an existing word to a new word you would have to opportunity to score from two words. One would be the old word and one from the new one you are forming. An example would be placing an S in the word FAILURE. Not only would you score from the word FAILURES but you would also score on the new word which is SNOW.

-Know when to change tiles - A useful
