Changing Times
The familiar face that was always there,
Is going to greet his latest test,
Our group will be minus one of it’s leaders,
You’re fleeing the friendship nest.
I know you’re worried, I am too,
But new horizons borrow our friends,
Your old admirer feels the loss but
Knows the memory never ends.
New people will have you pride of place,
It makes us stop and think
Of all the times that made us laugh,
Events that formed our link.
So it’s you, the jewel in my crown,
Whose courtship with me was a dance,
Although here now, you’re far away
Too scared to give your feelings a chance.
Will you stay with me? Will you take me back?
To walk and talk the way we could,
In starlit fields our closeness grew,
The way we thought, and knew it would.
Look around - nothing has changed,
The surroundings are still the same,
Yet insecure is how we feel
And change is what we blame.
I’m not sad that things have to change
But I find it hard to get used to.
I need someone as well as my friends,
To help move on, to help me through.
You know who I mean when I talk this way,
You can see it in my eyes,
We understand each other, I know you care,
We talked beneath our changing skies.
All this time, we flirted with love,
I have learned to care for you
And all I ask for in return,
Is how you feel, so please be true.
Time is ticking and change is upon us,
Yet still we grow and grow.
I want to make the most of you,
Before you change and go.

Amid the uncertainties of earth, is change.
A moderator for the future.
A biographer of the past.
