We’ve all experienced boredom – playing the same life script over and over.
We get into habit patterns of familiarity that feel comfortable – until they become almost painfully stifling. No matter what kind of life you lead, if you thought you had to live the same way for 500 years, you would probably have a “boredom attack.”
Most of us have developed interests and activities that entertain us, humor us, and give us a break from the suffocating schedules of daily life. Some people love to socialize; some love roller coasters; some love to read. Anyone can use a “break” for a short time, but then we want to get back to the familiar.
Writers want to write. For serious, driven writers, writing - creating a completed project - is a near obsession. Writing is a release of energy; it is an outlet for emotions. Finishing a piece is a fulfilling “conclusion” to creative efforts.
Writing is so broad in scope and possibility that one can find endless topics of interest to write about. Writing is a lonely field, but most writers find comfort and pleasure in their created products.
Article writing includes reading, researching, making notes, cross-indexing sources, forming ideas, organizing thoughts, creating outlines of a finished product, translating those thoughts into carefully-chosen written words, and trying to fit those words into the finished puzzle called an article.
Most writers love their projects and often want to touch them up with revisions to keep them fresh and up-to-date. They want to communicate their information to a broad audience, the bigger the better. That’s why a self-publishing site like Helium attracts writers, and many members talk about their Helium “addiction.” Of course, members can reach out to others during “coffee breaks” for encouragement, inspiration and feedback, so a writer does not need to feel quite so alone.
With over 200 channels to write to, any writer can find a title or topic of interest. Most writers secretly want a soapbox to reach out to people, and that flame rarely turns off unless a writer nears burnout, which is more like a state of unfocused restlessness that leads to depression. Then it’s time for rest; not pushing to write more.
If a writer “tires” of writing articles to the point of feeling stale or automated or having writer’s block, (s)he can switch over to a debate and take an emotional, persuasive stand on something (s)he feels strongly about. A writer can take a break from fact-based articles through creative writing – poetry, memoirs, reflections, short stories - and paint a word picture of something that “needs” to be put down on paper.
With such a user-friendly writing platform like Helium, which is so open to international writers of all ages, 13 and older, the “competitive titles” have built-in excitement and stimulation. By reading others’ articles and adding a new slant and personalized touch to the group, a writer usually isn’t “alone” in a creation. He is joining a “competition.”
With ongoing additions of hundreds of articles per day, with debates and jaunts into the creative writing areas, any writer on Helium should be able to overcome boredom by simply perusing the site and finding a “home” for his next piece of work.
On Helium, writers know they are not creating in a vacuum. They are part of a competitive group of writers who are trying to make Helium the biggest and best writing community on the web.
