Book Review: Divine Mercy in My Soul, by Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska

The Diary of Saint Maria Faustina essentially is an autobiography and an individual journey of her life experiences through her personal communion with Jesus Christ who blesses her with very special graces. Pope John Paul II in 2002, consecrated the Divine Mercy Basilica in Cracow, Poland, entrusting the entire world to The Divine Mercy.  Jesus speaks to Faustina stating for her to record all she witnesses from her soul in a diary. Jesus Christ, written by Faustina, is, The Divine Mercy.

Helen Kowalska was born 25th of August 1905 in the village of Glogowiec, Poland. At the tender age of seven she heard for the first time a voice in her soul calling her to live a more perfect way of life. This voice was different from any other voice she had ever heard, for it was a voice that was as loud and authoritative as a clap of thunder, yet, soft, and gently, speaking kindly to her at the same instant. This voice embellished her feelings of goodness, pure and true goodness that can be felt, and learned from. It was a voice she would never forget.

This incredible witness, Saint Maria Faustina, in her personal relationship with Jesus, wrote her diary containing six separate notebooks, her Preparation for Holy Communion, with abbreviations used in the footnotes, the Footnotes and an Index. The book starts with a Preface with an Original Preface to the Polish Edition, 1981; followed by the Introduction to the Polish Edition, and, a Chronology of her life. This beautiful book is made available from the Association of Marian Helpers in Stockbridge, MA. 01263, and may be reached also at www.marian.org .

In reading Maria Faustina’s diary in its entirety, you can witness for yourself the magnanimous depth of Divine Mercy Jesus offers every soul willing to accept his beautiful graces. He says in Faustina’s diary [Diary, 1017]; “My grace is not lost; if the soul for whom it was intended does not accept it, another soul takes it.” Over and over Jesus says in many, many different dialogues with Faustina, “I want to give Myself to souls and to fill them with My Love, but few there are who want to accept all the graces My Love has intended for them.” [Diary, 1017]

Jesus message of love that has been entrusted to the whole world to his Divine Mercy as stated by Jesus, “From here there must go forth the spark which will prepare the world for My final coming,” [Diary
