While I do not believe that celebrities should be given police escorts, I do concede that in some areas, it may be necessary.  In some parts of the United States, there is much more insanity than in others.  In some places, people are not so excited by the presence of a celebrity.  They know how to conduct themselves and give place. 

It's like this, I'd like to meet Johnny Depp.  I'd even like to have a drink with him and just talk with him.  Not for romance or autograph, but to experience him as a person. Maybe absorb some of that inspire.  But I'm not going to knock the hell out of fourteen people and jump him.  It isn't going to happen.  So I haven't met Johnny Depp, big deal.  (Why Johnny Depp? Because he's a real artist, that's why.  Notice I didn't say because I think he's a really nice person.)

Most celebrities have plans of travel.  They have iteneraries and planned routes.  Some of them use disguises.  In order to deal with the sorts of encounters which celebrities do, a creative mind is required.  Most celebrities have creative minds.  They learn to adapt.

Personally, I would not want a police escort.  Groups of people are less predictable than one and they always have some sort of politics and want favors.  If I did request a police escort, I'd know who I was calling for and the treatment would be above standard.  In other words, I like to be around people with whom I can be real.  People who aren't talking out the side of their mouths and insinuating knowledge that they don't possess.  Sycophant snitches looking for a way to pull me into a bad deal to take a step up.  Patronizing turds doing me a favor.

As clean as I live, I don't have anything to worry about.  But these days, one never knows. 

Too, nothing is more irksome than some smart ass, ignoramus trying to act like a tough guy or being in the know, when he isn't. 

Even though I'm currently having a mysterious problem with the police, I don't hate cops, it's just that two in particular who've treated me in a rather unfair and abusive fashion, happen to be a couple of gomers I don't know.  Never seen them before.

Come to think of it, I don't know any cops.  Except my Cherokee cousin and he's down in Texas.

I think celebrities should have police protection when they call and request it.  Celebrities are citizens and deserve that much.  If they will be going to a particular area which would want for a police escort, then they should be able to request it.  

I just don't think it wise to pave a yellow brick road between police departments and celebrities.
