Hotel Scott House
Via Gioberti 30
00185 Rome
Italy
+39 06 446 5379
Conveniently located a block from the Termini train station and another two blocks to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, Hotel Scott House occupies a very strategic location within walking distance of most of Rome's major sights. The Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain are both within a 15 minute walk away while the Spanish Steps and the Pantheon are within a leisurely 30 minute stroll from the Hotel Scott House. If you're venturing further afield, Termini is the hub of public transportation in Rome, with both metro lines, and a number of tram lines as well as buses starting from the station.
Hotel Scott House is housed in one of Rome's city blocks. A large sign in front advertises its presence, and the label on the buzzer outside notifies guests that it is on the fourth floor to the right of the entrance. The small lift makes its way without any fuss to the fourth floor, where the lobby of Hotel Scott House is directly in front of the lift's doors.
The receptionist greeted us with a friendly smile, and after registering both our passport details, gave us the key to our room. While small, the room was fairly comfortable and clean, although the tiled floor could get a little chilly, especially since we visited in the winter. A small TV without a remote control was perched on top of the wardrobe, and a desk, a queen-sized bed and two night tables completed the furniture in the room. The bathroom was rather cramped, and had some black mold on the ceiling, but for 42 Euros a night, you get what you pay for, and we were fairly pleased with the room.
The room rate included breakfast for two. While it wasn't a buffet breakfast, the croissant, toast, juice, yogurt, coffee, and fruit was more than adequate for a morning meal.
Conveniently located close to the Termini train station and to the major sights of Rome, Hotel Scott House is a great option for the budget traveler. There are also plenty of convenient, cheap, and good food options in the area. The rooms are comfortable and clean, disregarding the spot of mold in the bathroom, but the clincher is the fast, free wireless Internet access, available both in the public areas as well as in the guest rooms.
