‘Spring flowers’ is a cliché, but it is not surprising when there are so many beautiful flowers to choose from that are at their best during the Spring season. Here are ten of the best:

Daffodils – some might think them predictable, ‘boring’ even, but the wide variety of daffodils and narcissus available today means that any gardener will be certain of a blaze of springtime colour if daffodils are planted. Not only are these beautiful flowers reliably cheerful in any size garden, they also make great cut flowers for indoors.

Daisy (Bellis) – the ornamental daisy is a versatile Spring plant. Usually planted out the previous autumn, it can be used as ground cover, edging or in tubs and pots, or even to fill in gaps in the rockery. There are white, pink and red varieties, all with attractive double flowers.

Wallflower – wallflowers now come in white to near black, as well as the traditional yellow and red colours. They range in height from eight inches to nearly two feet, so are useful for anywhere in your garden borders. 5          Primrose – these are widely used as Spring bedding plants, together with their relatives the polyanthus. They prefer to grow in partial shade and grow to about six inches high. You can choose almost any colour you like, the brilliant flower heads looking stunning against their dark green foliage. Definitely a must for Spring gardens.

Forget-me-not (Myosotis) – plant forget-me-nots in a carpet, for a traditional Spring flourish to your garden. These plants bear dense clusters of small flowers, usually in blue but also available in pink or white varieties. Forget-me-nots are very easy to grow from seed, preferring a well-drained soil and light shade.

Heather (Erica) – often thought of as a winter plant, heather will
