The night is dark
but in my head,
the night is darker still.
There are no stars to wish upon,
no wishes here at all.
I used to be afraid
(falling prey to fear would be the end of me)
now I've let go.
Whatever happens will.
The darkness is not just anti-light,
it invades your mind,
corrupting it with irrationality.

For now, I sense no monsters near.
Dark swirls around me like black fog
and I use it as a blanket to guard me in my sleep.
The darkness,
after all,
is not nearly as frightening as what the daylight brings.
I count the hours til morning.
