Why the Jets have not won a Super Bowl since Super Bowl 3

by Bruce Bostwick

Created on: January 12, 2010

The New York Jets have yet to return back to the Super Bowl after winning against the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl 3. Since that time however, it could be said that there is an urban legend that follows the Jets. It has to do with because of being an AFL team and beating an NFL team that they can never win a Super Bowl again. Of course, that is just simply an urban legend.

One of the reasons has to do with not being able to get the right players and the right combination together. Don’t take it the wrong way; they have had some good teams in the past, just not great teams that could be looked upon to win it all. If anything, it would have to be considered perhaps a blunder but that just happens. The Jets have become a team that cannot be bet on to go all the way. Sure, they can make the playoffs but it seems it would be waiting for the other shoe to drop. That is a factor and it must be assessed properly in order to truly understand it. The Jets are just a team that hasn’t gotten it together. In fact, it could be said that perhaps management needs to really think it through.

There could also be the simple fact that it would have to be looked of not being able to have the talent involved. Granted, there is some serious potential but it has yet to pan out the way it had been anticipated and hoped. Before the 2009-10 season, it would be hard to bet on them and have been unsuccessful at appearing at a Super Bowl. In fact, they haven’t been too successful in the post-season going a record of 8-11, which is unacceptable. For Jets fans, it would be something that has been given the reason not to bet on them.

Not being able to the conference title game really makes it worse than it probably needs to be. They must figure out a way to improve upon their string of horrendous luck. It does seem as if they had been hit with a curse that has not yet been broken. The players won’t admit and they shouldn’t have to. It comes down to improving in the post-season. Since the departure of Joe Nameth, the Jets have little to nothing. In fact, look at their all-time record in that they have a pretty bad record being below .500, which is not a good sign whatsoever. Can it turn around? Only time will tell.
