Challenges faced by immigrants trying to fit in and preserve cultural identity

In Canada, it is widely recognized that all races are free to live here regardless of culture.  This can sometimes cause friction with our neighbours (The Americans) because we are sometimes accused of harbouring, or allowing terrorists into our world.  The fact remains that we do allow many different races and cultures into our multi-cultural society.  We have established our place in this world by becoming a haven for those seeking a new and better life.   We allow those that are displaced, persecuted, at war, in poverty, or simply trying to build a better future to come to Canada to create a better life for themselves and their families.

The downside of this is that the original settlers of Canada (predominately English Caucasian people) are slowly being turned into a minority in our own land.  Like Australia, we have Native people who live and have always lived here, but when you think of Canadians, you think of Caucasians.  Also, like Australia, we do have certain laws that give our Natives different rules to live by according to land grants, money grants, and tax grants.  This differing in laws cause tension, and act as a bridge for other cultures to start demanding their own special laws.

This causes us Canadians to have mixed feelings about these different races.  If you are here to live by the rules in our country, or if you had fled a bad situation to come to here to make a life, then you are welcome to live in peace.  We simply as one thing.  Leave your old prejudices at home.  Do not bring your wars here.  We have established our country on peace and do not want or need your old prejudices in our world.  The perceived cultural enemy of your homeland also lives here and we cannot afford to have people run from hardship and discrimination met with those same issues here.

There are those as well who come here and try to establish governance in according to their home ways.  As a Canadian I can not tolerate this as it will only succeed in supporting those who do bring their negative views with them.  I believe that if you wish to come here, you have to obey the laws of the country.  Learn the language as much as you need to and live your lives free from discrimination.  No exceptions.  I believe that the all unique cultures should be encouraged and accepted.  However, if your culture starts to infringe on Canadian culture there should be measures
