Ah, Christmas is near. Time for candy canes, snowball fights, and best of all, relaxation. But uh-oh! The kids are home! What do you do? Easy. Sit them on the couch and give them a few things to watch on the T.V. But what?
A Charlie Brown Christmas directed by Bill Melendez is one of the most loved. It's entertaining, funny, and teaches kids the true meaning of Christmas. It's also a classic that you probably watched yourself when you were young.
If that fails, try more recent productions such as Home Alone, which tells of the adventures of a boy named Kevin who has been left home alone by accident while his family goes on vacation, or its sequel, Home Alone 2, where Kevin's family again forgets him. Both are hilarious and must watches for you and your family.
A Christmas Story is the Christmas story of Ralphie, a boy with a dream: he wants a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas from Santa Claus. A Christmas Story tells the Christmas experience accurately from a child's eyes. It's funny, heartwarming, and a true classic for you and your kids!
In 2003, a new Christmas classic was born. Elf, starring Will Ferrell, is about a baby boy (a human) who was raised as an elf in the North Pole. Thirty years later after learning he's human, Buddy the Elf travels to New York City - elf clothes and all - to find his biological father. This is incredibly funny, and one of the top ten best kids movies of the century! Remember reading the kid's picture book, The Polar Express? The movies just as good - maybe better!
Starring Tom Hanks, featuring incredible graphics and a heartwarming story, The Polar Express is the perfect holiday movie. Or what about The Santa Clause? This tells the story about Tim Allen who suddenly finds himself with a new job - being Santa Clause. Although eh find this new occupation difficult at first, he soon learns not only the true spirit of Christmas, but the value of family.
If your kids are older (because younger kids might find these movies boring), try A Christmas Carol, based on the book by Charles Dickens, or It's a Wonderful Life. Both are classics, much-loved for years.
Mom, Dad, don't worry. When Winter vacation comes your way along with your kids' multiple "What can I do?"s, you'll be prepared.
