Poetry: Hats, mittens & scarves

by Dreidle Flare

Created on: January 10, 2010

Awakening from the solace

Of my silent winter slumber

There they wait for me by the door

Beckoning as they always do

To be free, to make merry

Among the wealthy and the poor

Though, there they sit

Whispering my name

An almost silent lure

Amid this dreary winter scene

My loneliness pervades

And in them I find no cure

Out of my sinking snowflake sea

Gently I feel their warm tug

Pulling me out into the cool air

Instantly I am surrounded by warmth

Despite the chills inside

I’ve never witnessed anything so pure

Mittens greet mittens

As hands shake hello

Hats kiss hats

As lips touch cheeks

Scarves meet scarves

A warm embrace

For the frosty winter days ahead

We’ll hold each other close

Never wanting for anything more
