Here we go again; another set of security rules at the airport because of the wealthy British-Nigerian guy who wanted to blow up a plane in Detroit. Because of that, now many people who are from, coming from or going to certain countries will be subject to "enhanced search." Have I mentioned that except for Cuba, all the countries that are on the list are Muslim countries? Hmmm, I wonder what does that mean and how it will affect the Muslim community here in America? I also wonder why Egypt and Morocco are not on that list. What about Great Britain? Isn't the suspect a British citizen? Weren't these countries considered to be having terrorist activities a few years ago. Have they come clean now? Does anybody know? I am teasing you of course I know the reason behind this calculated choice of countries. But that is not my problem? Wait a second? It is my problem; I am from one of the countries mentioned, which means that from now on, whenever I am travelling to my country, I'll be subject to strip search. What about my kids? Will they be searched and subject to these new scanners and ultrasound machinery that will presumably detect explosives? What will my kids think when they see me being searched like a vulgar criminal and when they see other kids go through security with no "harm" while they are being searched and run over by some metal detector wand and other scary detectors and gadgets? If everybody went through the same security measure, I wouldn't have found it disgusting. But to search a person just because she is from a specific country, that is too much to swallow. It is really too much to swallow. What will I answer my six year old daughter if she asks me why she is being searched and not the other kids. Should I tell her that it is because we are originally from country "A" and people from this country should be searched? What would she think? Knowing her, I know she'll say something like that: "Aren't we all Americans?" "What about that kid over there who did not have to go through the same security measure that we just went through?" .......I will think of an answer, after all, I am a mother and mothers know best!
For a few years, I thought I was living in the land of freedom, but it seems that this freedom is shrinking and shrinking to the point of making certain people, mostly citizen, and mostly from the list "Rouge" feel uncomfortable and uneasy to live here. Now I do not really feel that America is the best country. I really believe that the rest of the world is much more interesting than the United State of America. Certainly the food tastes better in other places; and people are much more knowledgeable and educated about other civilisations and other countries than just their own countries and their own selves.
As for my daughter's question, well I am just going to tell her that she should be proud of her origin and her parents' origin. As for her being an American citizen, I'll let her do her own deductions when she is old enough. We might come from a terrorist country ,as some think, but we are much more civilised and much more tolerant of inequalities and injustice. God bless............................................... .....I'll leave it blank for the smart ones to fill it. I know many of you are.
