If you are a freelance writer who does most of their work online chances are writing is either your main source of income or is a much extra needed cash boost to help you in difficult financial times. Therefore you do not want to spend lots of time writing articles that will get no hits, and subsequently make no money. You may think it is difficult to know what articles to write to make you money, but in actual fact there are many things at any given time that can help you earn those extra dollars needed to pay your electricity bill.

Write about current events and what is going on in the world. If you are a sports fan then you will know that at all times of the year there are major sporting events taking place, so why not capitalize on your interest and write about it. National football league fans can write about football players, about football picks, and of course about the prestigious super bowl. These are all topics that will gain traffic whilst the national football league season is underway. Another example is Christmas, which generates many article ideas from gifts, recycling gifts, to how to prepare Christmas dinner. These type of articles will get lots of hits on a short term basis, but Christmas comes once a year so you will experience this traffic and money once yearly. Breaking news stories are another great thing to write about.

It is always a good idea to write many articles on those areas which will always generate interest, such as how to give a good job interview, or how to treat high blood pressure. No matter what time of the year it is people will read these articles. This is also essential for a stable freelance writer’s income, it is no good only earning on the trends.

When writing your articles make sure you plan an introduction, main body and conclusion. Well written articles void of spelling and grammatical errors not only create a good impression but generally do better in the search engines. Additionally is someone likes what you have written they may come back and read more. More readers mean more money.  Try focusing on suitable keywords. Popular keywords will show up in google searches and gain you more traffic. Keywords should appear in the title, introduction, several times in your main body and in the conclusion.

As a freelance writer it is a good idea to write a variety of articles including those focusing on current trends as well as those that will get hits from search engine traffic throughout the year. The quality of your writing should not be sacrificed in order to publish hundreds of articles as quality is king and will keep people coming back to read more.
