The freshly fallen snow calls out
An enticing sound only children can hear.
Mothers grab the hats, mittens and scarves
As the children gladly respond with a joyful shout.
With impish grins and wiggling delights
Children race to the front door
And mothers gather all the warm supplies
For the grand neighborhood snow ball fight.
Snowsuits, boots and a kiss from mother
She lovingly bundles them up.
As she puts on their hats, mittens and scarves
And calls out "Wait for your brother!"
Steaming cups of cocoa await their chilly return at mom's say
And neighborhood mothers anticipate tales of grand adventures
The hats, mittens and scarves soon warming on radiators
drying to serve another day of winter play.
