There are many ways to save money on dog food the one I have found is in the ingredients. I am a veterinary assistant in my training to be one we got to learn about nutrition. You would be surprised to know Alpo and the other well known dog brands that are cheap can get costly in that you have to feed more than you need. The ingredients are also not healthy for your dog since it is cheap for a reason.  Dog food should have what a dog needs with no fillers. The prices seem scary when you look at how much it costs to get good food but there is a way. Some things to think about when choosing dog food that’s cost efficient. Is your dog allergic to certain food, is your dog picky all these can be costly but can be made cheaper.

When I see a customer and they complain about the price and say they are looking for a cheaper brand. I show them the ingredients and find out they never look at them. The better quality the food the less you need to feed so cost efficiency wise instead of feeding a cup of day of Alpo or Pedigree you feed a half to may be a quarter less to your dog.

Allergies, these too are costly what if I told you if you look at Nutro a type of dog food that you don't need a prescription to get and has some recipes made primarily for your dog if he has a sensitive stomach plus you won't have to switch food when the puppy gets older. There is also another brand called Eagle Pack that is holistic and also has something for sensitive stomachs or skin. Feeding unhealthy food doesn't show up quickly it takes time it usually show late or early depending on the dog and type of dog.

Veterinary Care is also costly if you feed your dog right with a good food there is not as many health problems that will associate with Food allergies. Which is the main reason why many people finally turn to better foods.

Some pet foods on a strict budget are Nutro, there are a few versions of this food and I always got great reviews. Another one is from the Diampond Company called Chicken soup which is the cheapest and only comes in one flavor and as long as your dog has no skin allergies or food allergies is a great cheap food for any size dog and can be usually found in Tractor supply. Another Cheap food that can rival Chicken soup is Lassie food found in Publix but I have only found it in Florida so far. Eagle Pack and Solid Gold are a bit pricier but great foods nonetheless. These products are ones I have gotten great and wonderful reviews and great stories of their pets even people on strict budgets found the food useful in helping their budget especially with dogs that had to take meds for their allergies were taken off once the vet gave the ok.
