The Emperor scorpion is an unusual pet to some but in the pets store industry they are widely bought up since they are a good starter pet to scorpions for the beginner enthusiast. When working in the pet store in Florida when I see a person eyeing one of these great arachnids I meet with the person and try to figure if they are a good match. The things I like to tell people is that they are found in West Africa and that this animal is still being imported since currently there isn't a restriction on the importing of this animal from Africa its native home. We got ours from a breeder who would come by and check on his babies. I make them well aware just in case they would like to be sure to buy from a breeder or where the breeder is there. This arachnid I believe is up with the rose hair tarantula of popularity. The emperor and the Rose hair are pretty mild in temperament you may get a few not too happy. The emperor also has a very mild poison. These animals usually though get bought by teenagers or other people who want a cool pet thee I usually was able to turn away and find a home where there concern was the care of these incredible arachnids. I never owned one but working with them they all have personalities and likes and dislikes.
Emperor Scorpions are the largest of the scorpion breed. The average mature adult is between 5-8 inches in length. The breeding age in the wild is about 4 years but they are known to mature at about one year of an age. In the captivity they can live anywhere between 5-8 years. Which is another reason they are popular amongst owners. In the wild and captivity these creatures are very timid and like to burrow and only come out of hiding to hunt for their prey. Never believe a pet store clerk if they tell you that they don't need a place to hide or think because the pet store has them on a thin sheet of sand with a water dish that it’s ok. I had to keep them like that since if I changed it for them the boss was upset since no costumer could see them. It always was changed immediately when I would leave. A really good type of product of digging pets is either the Excavator sand made by Zoomed or the Exoterra Reptile Den. In captivity and in the wild if the scorpion feels threatened it will put up a defense posture with its claws open and its tail arched over its back. The claws are known to snap a pencil in half I have also had one grab onto a snake hook it felt as though it grabbed me as I could hear and
